On Saturday our lives were changed again forever with the birth of our second child.
Ruth was officially due on Friday, and her waters broke around 1:30 am on Saturday. In the late morning we phoned the hospital, who insisted that we come in. We got there around 12:30, when they said they wanted to induce Ruth, which they began at 3:30. The next few hours were fairly slow as nothing happened. Around 7:30 labour proper began, and at 9:56pm out came a beautiful little baby.
We were blessed with a second daughter, weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces, or 3.82kg. She was 51 cm long with a 35.5cm head circumference. She came 9 days earlier than Elizabeth, but was only half a pound lighter, 0.5cm smaller head and 1cm longer.
It was fairly late by the time we got Ruth to her bed for the night. I went home for the night (with Esther, who again had been our wonderful extra mid-wife) and Ruth and Charlotte stayed in hospital.
The next morning I came back in and we decided to name her Charlotte Ruth Parker. She reminds me a lot of Elizabeth now, and I think she is going to be very beautiful.
We came home from hospital around lunch time and things are going quite well so far, although a bit more sleep would be nice.
Again God has blessed us with a beautiful, precious daughter whom we adore. We are so grateful for this little child. We would appreciate prayers for Charlotte for her protection and health and for wisdom, strength and patience for the rest of us.

Elizabeth has grown up into quite a lovely young lady. As of today, she is 2 years, 5 months and 3 days old. She is still incredibly precious to us and we adore her more than I could have imagined.
This might come as a bit of a surprise, but I have to admit that my little princess is not quite perfect, although she is pretty darn close. She went through a stage where she insisted that the world does exactly what she wants, and would get upset if things didn’t go her way. However, even those times are becoming less common! When she replies “Nothing” and “I don’t know” as a default reply to us we get frustrated, but lots of older people do this worse. If that is the worst of the terrible twos, then I’ll be very happy.
While I’m typing this, Elizabeth is using my PDA to play over and over again a video I took of her climbing our retaining wall, with a commentary of me telling her how much I love her and am proud of her. She loves it!
Wherever Elizabeth goes, she loves having her animals with her. She has a massive collection: Ruff and Giraffe are my favourites, but hers are Percy Pig, Jup Jup and Pink Rabbit. Unfortunately, Pink Rabbit has gone on a holiday, and we’re not quite sure where he has gone to or when he is coming back. The last few days she has had Percy with her almost constantly, and walks around chanting oink oink oink. She adores her animals and looks after them quite well, often kissing them and talking to them.
I have also decided that Elizabeth is a genius. Her vocabulary is expanding rapidly, and for quite a while we have been able to have quite good conversations with her. She enjoys doing block puzzles, and Ruth has bought her a few of them because she has mastered them so well. Now she can pick up half a dozen puzzles at once, and put them all together automatically. I’m very impressed.
One of her puzzles has the entire alphabet on it, with no pictures as clues, and she can do that perfectly. About a month ago I tried to teach her what the letters were. Within a few days, she had learnt them all – wow! Now when we go shopping, she occasionally calls out “P for Percy! G for God!” Genius I tell you!
I’m very proud to say that Ellie adores her Daddy. Whenever I go for a walk or drive anywhere – she will always say “Want to come with you!” which is great. We do the washing together, clean the pool together, go to the shops together and sweep the driveway together – and I love it.
Each night I will read her off to sleep, and we have quite a pattern lock in place. We always read a few library books, then finish with some Bible stories –which she keeps on adding to. Now we always read David and Goliath, then John the Baptist, the Calling of the disciples and finish with the wedding at Cana. If I say any of the words wrong, she will laugh and tell me what the proper word is.
When Elizabeth wakes up in the morning, sometimes she will come and stand next to me and insist we have breakfast – no matter the time. Lately though she has been happy to just go off by herself and read her books to her animals. She can recite many of her books word perfectly!!!
When we give her time to herself, Ellie will most likely read, draw on her easel, build a “big strong tower” with her blocks, do puzzles. However, she would normally rather be helping Mummy and Daddy in whatever we are doing.
Elizabeth is growing quite excited about becoming a big sister. The new baby is due in about 2 weeks, which means this site will be much more about the real “Parker Baby” and less about Elizabeth. I suspect Elizabeth is going to be a great big sister!
